Tomb Raider is 15 Years Old This Month!

This month marks the fifteenth anniversary of the Tomb Raider franchise, something that I feel should be marked somewhat.

Lara Croft is very much a character of opposites. On the one hand she was held up as an example of a strong female character that was able to reach a level of fame that few others did in the Nineties, while on the others complained that her sexualised appearance demeaned women and that the character was getting far more publicity that a mass murdering thief really should.

Either way, the impact that Lara had on popular culture is undeniable, appearing in everything from the original games to comics to (albeit bad) movies to energy drink adverts.

To me, she's as an important part of the 1990s, taking a place in the defintion of the decade along with Trainspotting, the Spice Girls, and Pulp.

Sure, the games got kind of ropey for a while, but they picked up again in quality and look to continue to do so into the future.

Anyways, So here's to you Miss Croft! Happy Fifteen Years!
