Movies I've Seen: Skyfall

This film was good on a number of reasons, it strays from the standard Bond film formula in numerous ways as well as bring back a number of elements dropped from the films as they became more Realistic with Casino Royale. Javier Bardem did a REALLY good job at playing the villain, who comes off as a bizarre mixture of Julian Assange and Heath Ledger's Joker, and Daniel Craig made a very good attempt at making Bond more of an actual human being this time around, instead of being an indestrible quipbot. Judi Dench is also excellent in this.

Apparently the director, Sam Mendes, based the tone of Skyfall upon the Dark Knight, which is kind of obvious in ways beyond the tone of the villain.

I can understand that a lot of people might be in uproar in certain parts of the internet regarding Bond pretty much saying that he's had sex with dudes before, but I thought that it was a funny moment. Especially considering the bizarre homophobic theories of his creator.

The action scenes were a lot of fun, and the visuals in this film are also gorgeous, the final battle in Scotland being a particular highlight in terms of lighting and the like. That last bit might sound like an odd compliment, but you have to see it, trust me.

Recommended.
